Birthday Gifts

Welcome  We are now officially into March, at least that’s what the calendar says, but wow, is mother nature ever confused!  We’ve got snow and below-zero wind chill (again!) here on March 4th!  Needless to say, I think we are all ready for spring.

February was a busy month at our house, even with multiple missed school days and activities due to winter weather.  As I’ve mentioned, my daughter and I have birthdays that fall in the same week during the month of February.  I’m going to share a little about our birthday gifts today.

Food For Thought  As I get older, I want less fuss made for my birthday.  In fact, as budgets tighten, I am content with a dinner out and be done with it.  But kids need celebrations.  As it turns out, my daughter and I received a joint birthday gift this year and we are super excited about it!  We received tickets to the Only Jesus Tour concert with Casting Crowns, Zach Williams, and Austin French.

Can I just share how amazing it is to be the parent of a child who asks for a birthday gift that involves Christian music and role models?  My child’s not perfect and I’m not the perfect parent, but while so many parents are battling with their preteens over cell phones, social media drama, immodest apparel, and suggestive song lyrics, I get to see the excitement on my daughter’s face when she sits a few rows back from the stage to watch her favorite singers.

We listen to local Christian radio station in our cars and play mostly Christian music on Spotify at home.  In January, while driving her to school, they announced that this tour was coming to our city.  She was literally screaming and practically bounced our car off the road with her excitement!  “I wanna go!  I wanna go!”  Then, every time she heard them talk about it on the station, she would say, “They’re taunting me!  Ugh, I wanna go so bad!”

So, I talked to my husband and suggested that maybe this year she and I have a joint birthday present.  He agreed.

Unfortunately, on her birthday, we had not purchased the tickets yet due to an unexpected bill that came up.  But we did tell her.  We didn’t want her to think she wasn’t getting anything for her birthday.  She said she understood and that was okay.  I could tell though, over the next couple weeks, she was getting nervous about her gift.  So, last week, when the tickets arrived at our door via UPS, on a snow day, no less, she was ecstatic.

Even though our birthdays have come and gone for this year, we still have a celebration to share later this month.  I look forward to sharing a wonderful night with my beautiful young lady and her handsome father, who has agreed to be our date for the evening!  The concert tickets may have been more than what we’d usually spend on birthday gifts, but an evening of memories and praising God is truly PRICELESS.

Today’s Scripture

Today’s Bible Journaling Pages

We had another cold, snowy weekend at the faith-family-food house! I need some bright colors in my life and I’m certainly not getting them by looking outside right now. I mean, come on, it’s March already!

Even though it’s cold and gray outside, I feel bright and sunny while singing songs of praise and worshipping my loving God. I may not be able to play an instrument or carry a tune well, but I can still sing songs of praise and worship, even if it’s humming or singing along with my favorite Christian artists as I work on these journaling pages. Here are my latest three pages from the book of Psalms. I hope you enjoy the encouragement and inspiration.

Psalm 59:16 Bible Journaling
Psalm 59:16 Bible Journaling; completely hand-drawn and colored with Brush-Tip Markers
Psalm 100:1-2 Bible Journaling
Psalm 100:1-2 Bible Journaling using colored pencils, colored gel pens, and brush-tip markers
Psalm 95:1-2 Bible Journaling
Psalm 95:1-2 Bible Journaling; Black Ink, Colored Pencil, and Brush-Tip Markers. My husband did inform me that I wrote out the verse in a confusing pattern, so I’m sorry for that inconvenience.
